21 For although they knew
God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their
thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and
exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to
look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles. Romans
1:21-23
O: Paul is describing the current state of society. Those
that know of God, but does not acknowledge Him as God. They became complacent
and ultimately had their hearts hardened in the process. God gave them into
their sin.
A: From verse 18 to 32, Paul describes and accurate
portrayal of today’s society. Like Solomon says, there is nothing new under the
sun. Our society is turning for the worse as pride and direct teachings of God
is becoming shunned and intolerant for liberal mindsets. Now if I were to stand
up for my faith, I would be labeled as a bigot. Furthermore in verses 21-23, is
one that describes my current heart. I no longer thank or acknowledge God for his
workings in my life. It take it as is or coincidence. Pride and self-reliance
has taken over my life to snuff out any reason to have God in my life. I have
become a fool…
P: God I pray that you would forgive me for my lack of faith
in you. I struggle to pray, read the word or acknowledge you in my daily life.
Forgive me and help me to come back to you in humility. I also pray that you
would take away this heart of wanting to fit in and not standing up for your
teachings. Help me to be loving yet set apart. In that I ask for wisdom. I pray
God that these words would not just be one of babble, but promises I can keep.
Amen.
