Wake up and Pray

45 When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. 46 “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.”

Luke 22:45-46

Jesus goes and prays on the Mount of Olives for strength before the final events leading up to his crucifixion. After coming down from being mental anguish he finds his disciples asleep and tells them to continue to pray that they would not fall into temptation.

I am in a state of spiritual slumber. Rather than preparing myself for oncoming attacks from Satan, I am apathetic and passive about spiritual protection. Satan is around waiting to devour when I least expect it. I give into all my desires and temptations without a second thought. As Jesus told the disciples to wake up and pray that we don't fall into temptation, I need to be more active in my faith so that I do not fail in defeating temptation through Christ. One of the areas I struggle with is lust. Rather than just pray that I don't fall into temptation, I need take the right physical steps to keep myself from failing.

Jesus forgive me for my lack of spiritual vigilance. Help me Spirit to be aware of the pitfalls that might happen throughout the day. When I do fail, I pray Holy Spirit that you make my sin apparent and visible. Allow me to see those faults, so that I will come to you immediately for forgiveness. Keep me from sinning against you.

In Jesus Name Amen
