Regret

48 When all the people who had gathered to witness this sight saw what took place, they beat their breasts and went away.

Luke 23:48

Jesus was mocked, ridiculed, beaten and finally crucified at the whim of the mob that sought blood. Jesus freely went and became the ultimate sacrifice knowing well of his innocence. After finally gave his final breath, an eclipse and earthquake shook the very grounds of Golgotha and the temple, of which the people knew who he really was, their Messiah.

The whole time, the people wanted Jesus to die, mocking him of every step to the bitter end to see an innocent man die on a cross. When the deed was done, they knew what mistake they have made. The beating of their breast is to signify great sorrow or remorse. How hard would it have been if I were there and experiencing Christ's death on the cross yelling "crucify him!" More than beat my breast I would have been prostrate front of his cross. I can say that I would have done these things if I were present in the first century, but I know time and time again, when I commit sins, I am nailing him to that cross to pay for my sins. And more often then not when I do commit these sins, there are no "beating of breasts". There's no remorse or sorrow for the re-crucifying God on that cross to allow me to be righteous.

Jesus allow me to understand the full effect of what it means to sin. Believing in you does not water down what has already been done 2000 years ago, but I ask that you make it real in my life. That every action that is missing the sight bring pain and sorrow onto you. Allow my actions not to be one of guilt, but one where I take it more serious because of my love for you. Allow me to change Holy Spirit and give me better discernment in my days so that I do not fall into temptation.

In Jesus Name
Amen.
